Tanna Frederick can currently be seen on the nation’s screens co-starring opposite Judd Nelson in Henry Jaglom’s highly acclaimed JUST 45 MINUTES FROM BROADWAY, which originated as a play here at The Edgemar Theater and enjoyed a very successful run of over a year! Ms Frederick had earlier starred in three previous Jaglom films for which she won great acclaim: HOLLYWOOD DREAMS, IRENE IN TIME and QUEEN OF THE LOT. She has recently completed principal photography on her 5th film collaboration with Mr Jaglom, THE M WORDS, co-starring with Michael Imperioli, Corey Feldman, Frances Fisher and Gregory Harrison, which will be released late 2013.
On Stage, Ms. Frederick has had a similarly astonishing and stunning career, starring in an earlier N. Richard Nash play, ECHOES, at The Coronet Theater and also in Mr Jaglom’s first play, A SAFE PLACE, at the Skylight Theater. Last year she directed theater for the first time, while also co-starring in Claire Chafee’s fascinating look at WHY WE HAVE A BODY. The year before that she played - to enormous acclaim - the title role of the dog in A.R. Guerney’s famed SYLVIA, a production that had originally opened at The Sierra Madre Playhouse before being transferred and restaged at The Edgemar Center For The Arts, by her long-time collaborator and director, Gary Imhof. It too, just barely reached the one-year-mark, very unusual in L.A. as you local theater-goers well know.
Last Year Ms Frederick received the Distinguished Young Alumni Award from her alma mater, The University Of Iowa, a distinction that made her very proud indeed. Other Awards have included Best Actress In A Feature Film by many film festivals from Houston to Fargo to Wyoming and, of course, from The Iowa independent Film Festival in her home state, which she was actually instrumental in creating five years earlier. In her determination to encourage local filmmaking and local filmmakers in Iowa and to bring more filmmaking there, she last year originated Project Cornlight, which has produced - with an all Iowa crew and cast - its first feature film, THE FARM, in which she stars opposite Tom Bower, Rylie Behr and Joel West and is directed by Ron Vignone. The Farm will be released next year.
Ms Frederick also recently won the prestigious Maverick Award from the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival. An ardent runner and surfer, her concerns since moving to California for the health of our oceans led her several years ago to found Project Save Our Surf - a non-profit, in which she remains extremely active - which also raise funds for freshwater, as well as Ocean conservation. She is using her increasing visibility to actively support many vital clean water initiatives, from Central America to South Africa to right here in Southern California.
